Good afternoon Otago supporters!!!

It's been all go around the Otago HQ! Last weekend was the Secondary Schools finals, we saw plenty of exciting talent lay down some nail biting battles in the fight for top spot! Check out the results below…

Our Spirit girls have been having an exceptional season which has seen them go through all rounds unbeaten. The girls have a bye this week but will be ready to throw down with a home semi final here at the stadium in a double header next Sunday 4 September. The girls game will follow the boys with a 4.35pm kick off.

Speaking of the boys, they too have been out silencing the doubters with 3 epic wins in a row during a hectic storm week! The boys travel to Auckland this weekend (see the team list below) then take on Bay of Plenty at home next Sunday with a 2.05pm kick off. Support the boys and support your local club by purchasing directly online here. Find your clubs unique promo code and enter it in the allocated box before selecting “get tickets” and we will pay a portion of your ticketing cost directly to your club!

Under 85s Southern Bush Pigs Secure Another Win!

The Southern Bushpigs continue their run of wins in the National U85kg Club cup competition defeating the Old Boys Uni Scallywags from Wellington 34-27 after leading 19-10 at 1/2 time.

While the Bushpigs kept their noses in front on the scoreboard the Scallywags would not lie down and certainly threw everything they had at the Bushies.

It was the Josh Buchan show, with Josh scoring 4 tries amongst a points hall of 29 points. The Scallywags certainly should not lose any of their admirers, contesting everything on offer.

Thanks also to referee Logan Whitty and his AR’s.

The Bushpigs will be eager to know who and where they are playing next week. That should be revealed post this weekend's games.

Up the Bushies!

Men's Academy & Women's HP Development Opportunity

The Otago Rugby High Performance programmes are an exciting opportunity for local and domestic talented young rugby athletes to discover a pathway in the game while upskilling themselves on all aspects off and on the field. The programme supports all accepted athletes whether they are studying or in the work force and also offers multiple avenues of support while these athletes take in the demands of possible professional rugby.

The benefits we have at Otago Rugby is the support of Otago University and Otago Polytech with wide range of educational opportunities within a stone's throw of the academy which is based at Forsyth Barr Stadium. The facilities and services that are available are a High-Performance gym facility, access to Bunnings NPC & Farah Palmer Cup coaches & staff, medical personnel, Sportscode video review facilities and also the pathway opportunity with the Highlanders.

While at the academy all athletes will be guided on their personal development through the six pillars of NZ Rugby; technical, tactical, physical, nutrition, mental skills, personal life skills, and will be assisted by multiple qualified staff within Otago Rugby.

In 2023, Otago High Performance department wishes to guarantee a place for a male and female player in the Men's Academy & Women's HP Groups respectively for country based players. Please note these players must be Year 13 to apply for a 2023 place.
